Apple has officially announced the arrival of a new retail store at The SoNo Collection, a newly opened mall in Norwalk, Connecticut. “A brand new Apple Store is coming soon” reads signage posted inside the mall. No grand opening date has been listed at this time, and there is no webpage for the store online. An Apple Store at The SoNo Collection has been rumored since at least July, long before the mall opened to customers this past October....
Apple has made great progress over the years in protecting its customers against two big risks: theft of their Apple devices, and exposure of their personal data. Activation Lock was introduced in 2013 and made it impossible for a thief to restore an iPhone or iPad to factory settings without the Apple ID credentials of its owner, or proof of purchase. Hard drive-based devices require more battery and stabilization space than RAM based device like the iPhone. Apple today has quietly released its latest diversity numbers, reflecting of the company as of July of this year. The numbers show that Apple is continuing its push towards diversity in the workplace, but that executive and upper management positions are still largely filled by white males… In the report, Apple outlines that 73 of its top 107 executives are white males. The remaining spots are filled as follows: 20 females, 15 of whom are white 2 Hispanic or latino employees (up from 1 last year) 14 Asian employees (up from 12 last year) 3 black or African-American employees Going further down the ladder, first and middle manager positions are held predominantly by white males....
The next-generation USB “Type C” standard that became available to manufacturers last month will also offer a “DisplayPort Alternate Mode”, enabling the new USB cables to “deliver full DisplayPort audio/video (A/V) performance, driving monitor resolutions of 4K and beyond, SuperSpeed USB (USB 3.1) data and up to 100 watts of power–over a single cable.” That means new USB cables that adopt the new slimmer Type-3 standard can essentially also work as a full-fledged DisplayPort cable....
