The Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) and its successor, Transport Layer Security (TLS), are designed to fix this. They sit between a high-level protocol (like HTTP) and a low-level protocol (like TCP) in the network stack and provide the necessary encryption and authentication functionality. Over the years, the use of TLS has grown dramatically, with over half of websites using HTTPS by default. However, situations exist where it is useful to be able to decrypt this traffic....

For now, a CyanogenMod Account offers the ability to locate a misplaced device or wipe phone data—including SD cards— via the b should your phone be misplaced or stolen. The CyanogenMod team says they built end-to-end encryption into the lost phone remote wipe functionality to keep malicious actors from eavesdropping on any data in transit. The group also has big plans for future versions of the CyanogenMod Account, including a secure SMS app integration with CyanogenMod forums....

Two interesting iOS tidbits this morning related to iOS. A rumor has it that Apple is in talks with YouKu, Chinese version of YouTube, over replacing the native YouTube app on iPhones in China because YouTube is still blocked in the country, writes TechNode. A trusted source told the publication that YouKu founder Victor Koo discussed the possibility with Apple’s chief Steve Jobs. The report is questionable knowing Apple has never replaced a standard iOS app with a third-party alternative....

A new Batman game from Warner Brothers Montreal is rumored to be announced during 2019’s upcoming industry celebration event The Game Awards in December. Fans of Rocksteady’s Batman Arkham series have been eagerly anticipating news of a new title featuring The Dark Knight ever since Arkham Origins developer WB Montreal began posting cryptic images on their social media sites, many of which led people to assume the new game would be focused on The Court of Owls arc from the Batman comics....

Last year, Apple introduced a special offer for new Apple device purchases: a one year trial of Apple TV+. As of today, that offer continues but Apple has now added another hardware free trial combo. Starting October 22nd, new purchases of an iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple TV or iPod touch now come with 3 months free of Apple Arcade, Apple’s game subscription service which includes more than 100 games. Walgreens has supported Apple’s payment efforts for many years, dating back to being one of the first adopters of Apple Pay. Now Apple and Walgreens are offering a $50 signup bonus for new Apple Card users through the end of June. Walgreens has been one of the few company’s to offer Apple Card users 3% cashback on Apple Pay purchases and back in April this year, it expanded that to purchases with the physical titanium Apple Card as well (through July)....

A glimpse at the crew jackets for Marvel’s Eternals could show a new logo for the highly-anticipated film. Eternals was announced last year at San Diego Comic-Con and is slated for release in November of this year. It will be the second film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Phase Four and introduce a new team of powerful cosmic beings who protect humanity from afar following the events of Avengers: Endgame, as confirmed in the film’s official synopsis....

Disney and Fox’s The New Mutants movie trailer is released. The film is a spinoff from Fox’s main X-Men franchise, directed by Josh Boone (The Fault in Our Stars) from a script he co-wrote with Knate Lee (Kidnap). Based on the Marvel comics of the same name, The New Mutants follows five young mutants who must escape the facility where they’re being held. The movie stars Anya Taylor-Joy as Magik, Maisie Williams as Wolfsbane, Henry Zaga as Sunspot, Charlie Heaton as Cannonball and Blu Hunt as Mirage....

Everyone in the tech industry knows that the new Nexus 7 is around the corner. Netflix is bringing offline playback to its streaming video service for the first time starting today. This means you won’t need an active Internet connection to watch movies and TV shows which is ideal for travel or other low-connection situations. The new offline feature will be available on both iOS and Android versions of the Netflix app for any streaming plan on the service. A new download button will appear in an upcoming update to the app expected to arrive shortly....

Netflix today has released an update for its iOS app that brings HDR content support to supported devices. The update also brings support and enhancements for iOS 11 all around and is available now for all users as the iPhone 8 starts to arrive to customers around the world. HDR support on iOS is rather limited, with Netflix’s site indicating that only the iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, and iPhone X support the video standard....
