This guide will cover everything you need to know about how to get fae iron in New World.

New World: Where to Find Fae Iron

Some may be quite disappointed to find out that fae iron is actually obtained from the exact same iron veins as iron ore is, just as a rare drop.

If you’ve mined what seems like countless iron veins up to this point, but have zero fae iron to your name, then you’ve got a pretty good understanding of just how rare of a drop this is. Luckily, there are some things you can do to improve the drop rate.

If you haven’t got yourself any iron ore yet, then you’re going to want to look out in the lighting-brown areas in the Highlands regions in the south of the map, where iron veins will commonly spawn at high altitude areas and near mountains or caves. They appear as large grey rocks with orange-ish tints. Mine it using your pickaxe to receive some iron ore, and the occasional fae iron.

Iron vein locations are highlighted in the image below. Use this interactive map, click “Hide All”, then search for “Iron Vein” and choose to show those. This will allow you to zoom in and find iron veins very easily.

New World: How to Increase the Fae Iron Drop Rate

In order to increase drop rates, you’re going to need to increase your mining luck. There are a few different ways you can do this.

For one, you can craft a pickaxe using Azoth, which is a material you will obtain naturally through completing quests throughout the story. When you do this, you have a chance of getting the Mining Luck perk, though it is not guaranteed. This will give you between a 2% and 9.3% boost in getting rare drops, scaling with your gear score.

The more reliable method actually involves roasting some potatoes. There are five tiers of potatoes you can roast, and each higher-tiered recipe will reward you with a bigger luck increase:

Kitchen Tier 1: Roasted Potatoes (Cooking Level 0) — Increases luck by 1000 points for 20 minutes. 1x Potato 1x Butter 1x Peppercorn Kitchen Tier 2: Herb-Roasted Potatoes (Cooking Level 5) — Increases luck by 1400 points for 25 minutes. 1x Potato 1x Butter 1x Honey 1x Cinnamon Kitchen Tier 3: Boiled Potatoes (Cooking Level 20) — Increases luck by 1700 points for 30 minutes. 1x Potato 1x Butter 1x Water 1x Seasoning Blend 1x Cauliflower Kitchen Tier 4: Poultry with Roasted Potatoes (Cooking Level 40) — Increases luck by 1900 points for 35 minutes. 1x Potato 1x Butter 1x Poultry 1x Seasoning Blend 1x Nut 1x Sausage Kitchen Tier 5: Salted Roasted Vegetables (Cooking Level 60) — Increases luck by 2000 points for 40 minutes. 1x Potato 1x Butter 1x Salt 1x Squash 1x Nut 1x Parsley 1x Oregano

The more difficult it is to cook, the longer and stronger the mining luck will be. Naturally, if you’re just starting out, you’re going to want to primarily use roasted potatoes and herb-roasted potatoes, as they require the lowest cooking level. Cook and eat these, then immediately get out searching for iron veins, so as to not waste the time you have with the buff.
