This new trailer for Berserk Musou, produced by Namco-Bandai, doesn’t show us too much. Half the trailer is text, and half seems to be a brief glimpse of gameplay. It displays series protagonist Guts swinging his way through a horde of monsters with his massive sword. There’s a surprising amount of blood on display for a Musou game, but it would feel out of place if something involving Berserk didn’t involve gore. In fact, I’d say it’s relatively toned down. Searching through the trailer, I can’t tell if there’s any sort of dismemberment going on; just the standard case of your attacks flinging enemies away.
That’s somewhat disappointing, considering a PS2 game managed to capture the raw power of Guts as he bisects enemies in unique ways. To be fair though, the Musou games have always struggled with fully rendering every soldier on the battlefield at once, usually having more pop in as you get closer to groups. Expecting a dismemberment system with limps flopping around might be too stressful for the game engine. Which isn’t to say the new entry fails to deliver on gorgeous graphics however, as the new trailer demonstrates.
Berserk Musou will release September 21st, 2016 in Japan on the PS3, PS4, and PS VITA. We’ve no indication if other regions will see a release.
